Vocational Education

Our Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathway at Canterbury College is constantly evolving to meet the industry requirements and to allow students many opportunities within the broader educational network in Australia.

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 have the opportunity to include Vocational Education and Training in their study program for their Senior Schooling. Many students undertake one Vocational Education Course and five Authority Subjects which allows them to obtain an Overall Position (OP) at the end of Year 12.

Canterbury College has a comprehensive suite of Vocational Courses available for students to include in their SET Plan. Courses offered on campus include:

  • Construction Certificate I
  • Events Certificate III
  • Hospitality Certificate I and II
  • Kitchen Operations Certificate II
  • Furniture Making Certificate II
  • Business Certificate III
  • Fitness Certificate III
  • Early Childhood Education and Care Certificate III
  • Diploma of Business.

Students also have the opportunity to complete individual Certificate Courses from outside providers. These are completed by students attending other campuses for one day per week or completing the courses online. Courses that have been undertaken include:

Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Senior School students can undertake School-based Apprenticeships, Traineeships, complete Certificate and Diploma courses and work placements as well as work experience. School-based Traineeships and Apprenticeships allow students to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification while completing high school.

Students have undertaken traineeships and apprenticeships in the following areas over the last few years:

Certificate II Animal Studies, Beauty, Carpentry, Community Recreation, Engineering, Hairdressing, Retail.

Certificate III Aged Care, Boiler Making, Business, Children’s Services, Coaching, Community Services, Diesel Fitting, Engineering, Film and Television, Fitness, Hairdressing, Hospitality Operations, Information Technology, Live Production, Multimedia, Plastering, Retail, Theatre and Events (Technical Operations), Wall and Ceiling Lining.

Certificate IV Justice, Multimedia.

Several students have successfully completed traineeships.
