Canterbury College BYOD
As part of our College’s learning environment, all students in Years 4 – 12 are required to bring their own device (BYOD). The device is used every day. Students are required to bring the device fully charged to school each day and be responsible for its maintenance and care.

All students enrolled at Canterbury College have access to the latest version of Windows 10 for Education and the Microsoft Office Professional software suite from the College portal. Other software is provided based on selected subjects. Students are able to log into the myCanterbury portal ( and select the "BYOT Software Catalogue" to install any required packages.

Many students have a computer now which will still be viable and supported in 2018. Devices with the capacity of Windows 10, 4GB RAM, 128Gb SSD and a battery life of 6 hours should still meet students’ needs. We emphasise that many devices that were used in 2017 will meet the 2018 requirements.

Students who currently have MAC OS devices will be required to install Windows on their device using a dual boot method such as Apple’s built in ‘Boot Camp’ to use both Mac OS and Windows or install Windows 10 exclusively. Instructions for this can be found here. The College recommends partitioning 128GB of hard drive space for Windows if possible, and 64GB at minimum. The Windows 10 Education ISO is available via the College portal.

The College also recommends the use of a stylus which is particularly useful for the STEM subjects.

To assist those families who are purchasing or upgrading, we offer the following information:

Processor: 6th Generation Intel Core i or Core m processor - Recommended 7th Gen i5
Ram: 4GB – Recommended 8GB
Hard Drive: 128GB – Recommended 256GB SSD
Battery: 6 hours usage time

N.B. While not required, devices with a solid state hard drive (SSD) and a touch screen with stylus are highly recommended. Some Senior School subjects may have more specific requirements and in these situations we suggest parents refer to the College’s subject selection booklet.


Families can purchase from their vendor of choice or from the College’s purchasing portal. Details and links to the supplier's purchasing portal are listed below. This supply of devices is through a commercial contract and have educational lead times for delivery of up to 6 weeks.

The devices listed below have been selected after testing each of the devices at the College. Purchasing through our preferred supplier offers you access to their support and manufacturer warranty. The pricing below is provided for Academic purchases and is below the recommended retail price.

At time of purchase you will have the opportunity to select collection from your local store.
