BYOD

Canterbury College BYOD
As part of our College’s learning environment, in 2019 all students in Years 3 – 12 are required to bring their own device (BYOD). The device is used every day. Students are required to bring the device fully charged to College each day and be responsible for its maintenance and care.

Many students are currently using computers on the College BYOD program which will still be viable and supported in 2019. We emphasise that devices that were used in 2018 at the College can continue to be used by that student, and within reason, the 'lifespan' of a device will be left to the discretion of the student and their guardian/s. Though the College does recommend a 3 year cycle to ensure maintaining usability in the classroom.

Students who currently have MAC OS device enrolled in the BYOD program will be required to install Windows on their device using a dual boot method such as Apple’s built in ‘Boot Camp’ to use both Mac OS and Windows 10 or install Windows 10 exclusively. Instructions for this can be found here. The College recommends partitioning 128GB of hard drive space for Windows if possible, and 64GB at minimum. The Windows 10 Education ISO is available via the College portal.

All students enrolled at Canterbury College have access to the latest version of Windows 10 for Education and the Microsoft Office Professional software suite from the College portal. Other software is provided based on selected subjects. Students are able to log into the myCanterbury portal (my.canterbury.qld.edu.au) and select the "BYOD Software Catalogue" to install any required packages.

For students who require a new device at in preparation for or during 2019, please refer to the below system requirements:

The College highly recommends the use of a stylus which is particularly useful for STEM and design subjects. Some Senior School subjects may have more specific requirements and in these situations we suggest parents refer to the College’s subject selection booklet.

Please take note: That in accordance with the 2019 requirements, new devices that do not meet these specifications will not be 'On-boarded' to the Canterbury network and BYOD program. This includes; phones, ipads, Apple Mac computers, and 'Hand me down' devices that don't meet 2019 specifications.
